Here is the book cover created to represent the Divergent book series!

The intent of this project is to combine at least two bitmap images, photographs, and text into a creative montage employing various text image editing techniques to convey my vision for the book cover. The product you see displayed is a reimagined result to represent the cover of the Divergent book series. Reflecting on this process, I learned about the challenge of creativity in artistic representations. This skill does not come naturally to me. This project challenged my ability to conceptualize an idea, including effective symbolism, placing the pieces in the appropriate locations, and ensuring an eticing representation of the book plot without spoilers. Howerver, the value for educational purposes is potentially high. Many students seek opportunites to demonstrate creativity and abstract thought in visual ways. Also, a project like this assesses a student's knowledge and analysis of topics.

The following is the process I used to create this book cover. I chose a high-resolution image of a future city ruins landscape to emulage this through the book cover. I included translucent embedded images of symbols representing each faction. The symbols are depicted in a circular format to denote the interconnected nature of society under this structure. This means that each faction performs a critical function in the progress of society. I inserted an image of a girl standing, almost looking at the factions and cityscape. To make this happen, I took an image of a girl from internet images and traced the outline with a lasso tool. Then, I inverted the image and resized it to its current proportion. This positioning intends to drive intrigue about what she is looking at and thinking about. I included a text teaser at the bottom of the book cover. This design idea complements the compared image of the factions and girl.
